1980's

Carcoar Dam Sailing Club - 1980's

View of an empty dam, c.1982. Looking back up towards the river.
Yes, that's the original river course you can see quite clearly. The launching area is just off to the mid-right.
Jamie Mendham informed me the water level was just 2 (two) % in 1982 !!!

By the winter of 1983, the dam was empty! View from the lawn in front of the clubhouse. The shelter was removed in 2005, and behind that is the original boatshed, on the site of the current Sailability boatshed.

The view of a totally empty Carcoar Dam, winter 1983. Seen from in front of the boatshed, with the flagstaff in the foreground.
That green paddock is not water! (Photo courtesy B. Chester)
Compare THIS to the same shot in 2006...

Winter 1983. View looking back across a totally empty sailing basin towards the clubhouse and boatshed (mid-right).
This was taken just near the 'yellow mid-river buoy' (and the old bridge).
To give a sense of perspective, in the distance above the dog in the foreground you can see some people standing next to a car at what would be just below the normal launching area!!!

Winter 1983. A totally empty Carcoar Dam, taken looking towards the 'yellow mid-river buoy.'
The remains of these trees were sticking out above the surface between 2005-2010. Normally all of this is underwater - even the old bridge!

Carcoar Dam, c.1985, at almost 100% full again. Once the drought broke it didn't take long to fill-up again. View from in front of the clubhouse looking down towards the old boatshed (mid-right).

The Runeman Family were one of the original stalwarts of the club, right back from the 1950's.
